Veterans' Preference is an assistance program to military veterans seeking state employment, allowing preference in certain qualifying examinations. Eligible veterans, widows or widowers, and spouses of 100 percent disabled veterans who pass an entrance examination are ranked at the top of the eligibility list. This preference is applicable to open competitive examinations and ceases once an individual achieves permanent civil service status.

The Limited Examination and Appointment Program (LEAP) is an alternative pathway to state civil service for people with disabilities. As an alternative to the traditional testing process, it allows applicants with disabilities to demonstrate competency through on-the-job testing known as the Job Examination Period (JEP). Candidates will need to be LEAP-certified by the Department of Rehabilitation prior to taking a LEAP exam.

HCD works with University Enterprise Inc. (UEI), a dynamic, professional, student-focused non-profit Intern Network that offers part-time paid student internships in a real-world setting. This program is open to Sac State students and students attending affiliated colleges.

Eligibility
Qualifications required for working as a Student Assistant:
- You must be at least 18 years of age.
- Enrolled and attending classes during the regular term (fall, spring, and winter, if applicable), at any qualifying institution of higher education, with a minimum of six (6) semester units or nine (9) quarter units for undergraduate students; four (4) semester units or six (6) quarter units for graduate students.
