In October 2023, the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) released a first-of-its kind report, the San Francisco Housing Policy and Practice Review, which identified barriers to housing approvals and construction and provided Required Actions for the City and County of San Francisco with a timeline for implementation.

HCD has since issued a Corrective Action Letter to San Francisco after several Required Actions were not completed by their deadlines. HCD continues to work with the jurisdiction to help them meet their housing commitments. For more information, please see the Corrective Action Letter.
