Ventura County Celebrates New Affordable Housing
Ventura County recently celebrated the grand opening of Central Terrace Apartments, an affordable housing community in the heart of Downtown Oxnard.
Central Terrace Apartments, a project of Many Mansions, provides 87 new homes for local area residents, 35 of which are set aside as permanent supportive housing for people experiencing chronic homelessness. Residents can enjoy the central courtyard and barbeque area, as well as other amenities including on-site laundry service and bicycle storage.
HCD provided over $23 million to support construction and infrastructure improvements through the Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities (AHSC) program administered in partnership with the Strategic Growth Council. Infrastructure improvements include development of the area’s first open-space park, bike lanes, resurfacing, and curb extensions.
Local transit was also supported by AHSC funds, providing new restroom facilities, lights, and signs to the 4th and B Street transit hub. The grant will also help pay for improvements to 52 downtown bus stops, as well as the purchase of 42 electric 15-passanger vans to be used for CalVans’ vanpool and other farmworker programs.
Central Terrace Apartments serves very- and extremely low-income residents, with on-site services and programs that promote stability and economic resiliency. HCD welcomes the opportunity to continue expanding this permanent supportive housing model statewide thanks to passage of Proposition 1 and HCD’s new Homekey+ program.
